Jean-Max (1894-1970) was a film actor who specialized in dark, brooding German espionage films of the 1930s. The Colin poster for the performer is a masterpiece of moody evocations composed of relatively few elements, but it conveys an undeniable emotional resonance. The divided face with a silhouette lurking in the shadows of the darker half demonstrates Colin’s ability to effortlessly explore a multifaceted personality. And although the shadowy Jean-Max remains a bit of a mystery, Colin’s design definitely generates interest in the subject.
