"The French Government asked Colin's help in organizing a big exhibition... to commemorate the suffering of the Poles and to express Paris’s feelings towards the citizens of Warsaw. And Colin responded with yet another moving poster; again we have the ruins, the eyes of Poland being two gaping holes in the country's structure, much of the emotional impact coming from the fire-like hair and the torn limb... [It] remains an eloquent testament to the suffering of the Poles, 'accusing' not only the Germans, but those who might forget" (Colin, p. 10). This is the preparatory work for the final poster.
