This documentary film recounts the “Battle of Heavy Water,” an Allied military operation to destroy a heavy water production plant in Norway as part of the atomic bomb race. The effort was successful, and the heavy water—a material crucial to atomic bomb construction—was moved to Great Britain, away from German hands. This marked one of the first acts of French resistance. In the film, many of the involved parties play their own roles, including French scientist Joliot-Curie.
