Out with the old, in with the new. Colin uses a dual bust image to promote Present Tense, a magazine published by the French Friendship Society, with the toppled, lifeless head of outdated thinking utilized to contrast the flushed, progressive vision of a more amicable tomorrow. The artist was so pleased with the clarity of this concept that it became a thematic variation that he would rely upon once more in 1948 in order to call the public’s attention to the Global Intellectual Congress for Peace being held in Poland (see Colin/Affichiste, 145).
