What an exceptional time to host a World’s Fair, and an intense time on both the national and international political levels: the birth of the Popular Front, the war in Spain, the rise of Nazism in Germany and fascism in Italy, not to mention the difficult years that followed after the stock exchange crisis of 1929. And yet to look at the Colin design for the fair, one would guess that the world was at peace, as an incredibly placid, nearly detached, yet passionate visual calling card puts a national visage to an international event.
