This poster for the city’s annual summer exhibition of paintings, music, and poetry caps a 55-year poster career by one of France’s leading graphic artists. It is fitting that Paris should be the subject of his last work, for in his hundreds of posters from 1925 to 1980, Colin documented much of the city’s art and history. Using primary colors with childlike simplicity, he floats puffs of clouds over a giant canvas that is as much a symbol of Paris as the Eiffel Tower or the Arc de Triomphe.
