With the Second World War an incontestably fresh memory, the course of properly reconstructing a fractured French infrastructure was a top priority for the Fourth Republic. To that end, the Minister of Reconstruction and Urbanism sponsored the forward-thinking International Exposition of Urban Planning and Dwelling. Colin’s poster, though not nearly as fractal as many of the artist’s designs, presents an architectural behemoth, creating a new urban landscape from the puzzle-piece fragments that surround him on his free-floating green space. It’s somewhat surreal, yet totally applicable to the subject at hand.
