“We know nothing of the plot of La Main de Singe (The Bloody Hand); what matters is that a new machine—a rotary printing press—has been added to the arsenal of horror weapons. Asked about his unusual, almost photographic, treatment in this poster, Colin says: ‘You can interpret Mistinguett or plays and actors in various ways, but for a drama whose sole purpose is to frighten, the poster must itself become terrifying and gruesome and this does require a realistic treatment” (Colin, p. 10).
