In 1899, Cappiello tried his hand at sculpture, creating statues of Princess du Ligne, Albert Brasseur, Réjane, Yvette Guilbert, and Jeanne Granier. The latter was produced in an edition of 100 copies and hand-colored by the artist. “Each is shown in a characteristic pose that practically makes them three-dimensional caricatures... Granier is taking a graceful bow” (Cappiello/Rennert, p. 12). These statues are extremely rare today!
Incised signature and date to lower edge ‘L. Cappiello 1899’.
