A dove blossoms from a mushroom cloud in Tanaka's poignant submission to the Hiroshima International Cultural Foundation. Between 1983 and 1990, the HICF, in conjunction with the Japan Graphic Designers Association, created an annual poster project, called Hiroshima Appeals, to promote global peace and prevent future nuclear attacks. Tanaka is regarded as one of the most influential Japanese graphic designers of the 20th century.
