Klinger, a native of Vienna, was one of Berlin's best-known posterists from 1900-1914, which was Germany's golden era of poster art. In fact, he can be considered its crown prince: he contributed hundreds of illustrations to humor magazines and brought his sense of comedy abundantly to his poster work as well. In this deliciously whimsical design for a Berlin corset maker, he lets the mannequin's ridiculously long hat feather lead our eye to the gentleman who is gazing at the merchandise with a voyeuristic gleam.
