These six posters were created for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. This was a kind of "World's Fair" on San Francisco's Treasure Island to inaugurate both the Golden Gate and Oakland Bay bridges, which had opened in recent years. The theme was "Pageant of the Pacific." "The artist chose images representing many tribal nations using materials given to him by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The silkscreening was done by the Works Project Administration and supervised by Siegriest on a boat anchored off Treasure Island, the location of the exposition” (American Posters, p. 127). (6)
