Casino de Paris / Féminissma / Liane de Pougy
A charter member of the Salon d’Automne, Redon employed a lighthearted touch that showed up in his contributions to Parisian humor magazines as well as his paintings and posters. However, there’s nothing humorous about the sensual ultra-femininity that he uses to promote a musical evening of poetry and pulchritude at the Casino de Paris featuring Liane de Pougy, a Folies-Bergère dancer renowned as one of Paris' most beautiful and notorious courtesans. Born Anne Marie Chassaigne and raised in a nunnery, Pougy became a noted demimondaine and rival of La Belle Otero. Sarah Bernhardt, faced with the task of teaching Liane to act, advised her that when she was on stage, it would be best to keep her "pretty mouth shut." This is the larger format version of the poster.
