This jovial egghead doesn’t seem bothered in the least that his time for a noodling comeuppance may arrive. But for the moment, he’s happy as can be to deliver a steaming tray of spaghetti with the assistance of macaroni limbs. A spectacularly charming Sepo image for Lustucru pasta, the product was made from only the freshest eggs, and the brand was wise enough to use the services of only the finest graphic designers. Born near Ravenna, Pozzati grew up in Bologna where he studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts, and then took up painting. In 1917, he joined the “Maga” agency of Giussepe Magagnoli, ex-director of Vercasson in Paris (Along with its stable of Italian artists, “Maga” had the Italian contracts of Mauzan and Cappiello, the chief influence on Pozzati’s early style). He moved to Paris in 1920 and was soon exhibiting widely and winning recognition. In 1923, he adopted the name Sepo.
