An extravagant elephant invites us to board the S.S. Empress of France in New York and explore the world. A 1924 Canadian Pacific advertisement had this to say: "Each Gateway Port opens the door to some race you ought to know—some ancient culture that still lives, some romantic land that remains romantic. Haifa, Port Said, Bombay, Shanghai—Canadian Pacific has made the Gateway Ports into two itineraries. Never before could they be visited so happily. Steam a few days. Explore a few days. Poke in here. Poke in there."
